Individual Reflections-Jaime Pang

(I) Plenary Sessions
(A) My key learning points from each session...
Importance of Water - Dirty or Clean
I learnt that we should do our part to keep the water clean as it is precious and limited.
Revolution of Microelectronics Technology
I learnt that using microelectronics, the society can be further improved.
Innovative breakthroughs in Nano-Science and Nano-Technology
I learnt that through biomedical engineering, many things are possible, even artificial photosynthesis that can create energy at a low cost.
IT for Animation
I learnt that mathematical formulas are used to calculate many things we see in real life, like creating animations and electronics.I also found out that in production,3D movies are much cheaper than 2D movies as there is lesser manual work to do.
Disappearing glaciers, rising sea levels, and why gravity is even more important than you think
I found out that the sea level all around the earth varies from one place to another.I also realised that the water level where the glaciers melt are lower than other places.
(B) Deepest Impression...
The plenary session that leaves the deepest impression on me is the session on Disappearing Glaciers and rising sea levels. What I like about it is that it is really interesting and I learnt many things that I would not been able to find out by myself.

(II) My Personal Reflection
I chose this project because I feel that this project is related to our daily lives, like how we always see slopes and coffee. We know that coffee contains caffeine but we do not really pay attention to the small details that we can observe and try out ourselves in the laboratory. For slopes,we always wonder how fast is the maximum speed that the ball can roll down a slope.

My role in the group is to take down notes and information that my fellow team mates gather and collaborate them.

We faced some challenges while adjusting the angle of the slope.Due to the screw that holds the two metals together, the protractor is unable to measure the angle of the slope accurately. In the end,we decided to measure the height of the slope in centimeters instead.

Through this project,I discovered what the slope measurements should be to get the fastest ball record and how to extract caffeine from different beverages that we drink regularly.

As an individual,I have learnt many interesting things that I would not be able to discover if I had to find out myself.I was also able to experience hands-on activities like extracting caffeine from beverages and adjust the slope to get the fastest ball record.

My Aspiration is not yet decided as sometimes I have too many things that I want to try while other times I do not know what I should do in the future to contribute to the society. So for now,I think I'll wait until I have another aspiration before I make my decision.
